Changelog
Device v1.3.2 (BLE 1.2.1) - October 2026
Hybrid cellular and satellite connectivity
- Uses cellular (TN) where available and switches to satellite (NTN) automatically when it isn't
- Hybrid mode is the default. Cellular-only or satellite-only can be set in the Desktop Application.
- On satellite, the device checks for cellular regularly and switches back when available.
- Avoids repeated switching in weak coverage to save battery.
- Keeps reporting over cellular indoors, where GPS isn't available.
Multi-BLE Capability and scanning by UUID
- Connect up to 5 BLE beacons per AssetHawk
- Beacons can now be selected by UUID in addition to MAC address, so up to five beacons with the same UUID can be tracked without entering each device's address
- Fixed an issue where cancelling a Bluetooth scan could leave the device unable to re-enter pairing mode.
- Bluetooth power sequencing during boot has been reordered and corrected, fixing a case where the device could wait indefinitely for Bluetooth to come up.
Faster firmware updates
- Modem firmware can now be updated using delta (partial) updates, reducing the data transferred and the time an update takes.
More accurate motion reporting
- Fixed an issue where a movement timeout could expire while the asset was still moving, causing journey end to be reported too early.
- Motion state now updates directly from the motion event rather than a delayed status check, giving more consistent start-of-journey reporting.
- Tuned the default movement sensitivity threshold based on field testing
Device v1.2.0 (BLE 1.2.0) - June 2026
Improved motion and tamper reporting
- The device now detects when an asset has stopped moving as well as when it starts, giving accurate journey start and end reporting.
- Tamper alerts clear automatically after a configurable period rather than staying set indefinitely.
- Tamper state is reported on every message.
- Alert and tamper messages take priority over routine location messages.
More usable location data
- New option to send a message even when a GPS fix is unavailable, so you receive a heartbeat and device status rather than silence.
- New option to send location and Bluetooth beacon reports together (BLE sync mode), so an asset's position and its tagged contents arrive as a matched pair.
Reliability
- Connection retry and backoff timing have been tuned so devices reconnect faster after a network outage, and a fix to the connection failure counter stops it carrying over incorrectly between attempts, so devices maintain reporting through a wider range of network conditions.
- Improved automatic fault recovery that detects if message delivery has stalled and automatically reboots the device to restore normal operation
Device v1.1.0 (BLE 1.1.1) - April 2026
Bluetooth tag tracking
- The device can now pair with and scan for Bluetooth beacons, so assets tagged with BLE beacons are detected and reported alongside the device's own location.
- Beacon reports include signal strength, letting you gauge the proximity of a tagged asset.
- Beacon selection is done by MAC address entry in the configuration tool
- Beacon settings can be changed in the field without a firmware update.
Better location accuracy and battery use
- The network can now request a GPS fix when it needs one, rather than the device fixing on a fixed timer regardless of demand.
- Location messages state why they were sent: scheduled, motion, tamper, or first message.
- Motion and tamper events reliably trigger a fix and a message.
Reliability and battery life
- Improved connection resilience, so devices maintain reporting through a wider range of network conditions.
- Refinements to how GPS, Bluetooth and the accelerometer are powered, extending battery life.
